Police arrest barricaded man

County police this weekend arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a residence and brandished a weapon at officers.

At about 11:15 p.m. on Sept. 23, officers were called to a residence in the 7000 block of Velvet Antler Drive to check on the welfare of a community member. Police were able to make contact with an adult male resident, John Michael Loslo III, 49, who was inside the home.

Loslo brandished a firearm at the responding officers. One officer fired at Loslo. Neither the officer nor Loslo sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

Additional police resources, including the SWAT and Negotiations teams, were called to the scene. Loslo surrendered a short time later, at approximately 4:54 a.m. on Sept. 24. He has been charged with brandishing a firearm.

Police seek bank robbery suspect

County police are searching for a man who robbed the Virginia Credit Union at 13025 Jefferson Davis Highway on Sept. 21.

At about 2:41 p.m., the man approached a teller and passed a note demanding money. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was displayed during the incident, and no one was injured. The suspect was last seen running in the direction of John Tyler Community College.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall and about 160 pounds, with a slender build and a light complexion. He was wearing a black Nike zip-up sweatshirt, black pants and sunglasses, and was carrying a purple backpack.

Two charged after children found in trunk of car

A mother and her brother have been charged with multiple counts of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after three children were found in the trunk of a car.

During a traffic stop of a vehicle on Sept. 15 for a traffic infraction, an officer saw a 9-year-old male crawl from the vehicle’s trunk compartment into the passenger compartment. Two other children, a 6-year-old female and a 5-year-old male, were also found to be riding in the trunk. The children were unharmed.

The children’s mother, Dulce Baltazar, 25, of the 600 block of Kingsdale Road, has been charged with three counts of child endangerment. Her brother, Danny Baltazar, 24, of the same address, was driving the car. He has been charged with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, driving without headlights and driving with a revoked license.
