County has obligation to keep bay clean, safe

I’m surprised and disappointed to read that Chesterfield County is looking for “relief” from its Bay clean-up obligations [“Could county get ‘relief’ from bay cleanup obligations?” Nov. 30]. The efforts to remove pollutants from stormwater runoff don’t just improve the health of the bay, though that’s a noble and worthwhile cause. Those projects also keep our local creeks and reservoirs free of pollution and sediment. How many parents let their kids play in the creeks and streams that run behind their houses without fear of the contaminants in the water? One “service” that Chesterfield County needs to provide is clean and safe water for its citizens to fish, swim and recreate in. Ken Robertson
