Armed robbers hit florist, beauty salon on Midlothian

Two businesses on Midlothian Turnpike that are all about beauty were the scenes of ugly incidents recently.

• On Jan. 17, around 5:55 p.m., two unknown suspects displaying handguns entered Strange’ s Florist in the 8000 block. They forced an employee to open the cash register and give them money, then forced all the employees into a walk-in freezer. The suspects left with an unspecified amount of cash. No injuries were reported.

• An armed and masked suspect entered ABA Beauty Supply in the 7400 block around 6:55 p.m. on Jan. 21. He forced everyone to their knees and made off with an unspecified amount of cash.

In other crimes:

Alta Sterling Apartments (Southwind Drive) – An unspecified motor vehicle was reported stolen from a unit in the 7400 block on Jan. 15.

Andersons Forge (Buggy Place) – Unknown suspect(s) repeatedly kicked the rear door of a home in the 7200 block around 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 17, setting off an alarm. Nothing was reported stolen.

Beach Road – The owner of a red motor scooter reported it was stolen after he left it at the end of a neighbor’s driveway on Jan. 17.

Bellwood Farms (Bellwood Road) – Unknown suspect(s) entered two vehicles owned by Capitol Oil in the 1300 block on Jan. 15 and stole electronic devices.

Branchs Bluff (Proctors Run Drive) – Batteries were reported stolen from several vehicles at a construction site in the 8700 block on Jan. 18.

Chester Road – Miscellaneous items were reported stolen from a home in the 8800 block on Jan. 15. Two of the items were found later in a nearby ditch.

Cogbill Road – The rear license plate was stolen on Jan. 15 from a vehicle parked at Meadowbrook High School in the 4900 block.

Colonial Ridge (Martingale Road) – Witnesses reported seeing an unknown suspect firing gunshots at two other suspects in the 2700 block around 5 p.m. on Jan. 18. The suspects all left the scene. No injuries were reported.

Courthouse Road – An unknown suspect called in a bomb threat to L.C. Bird High School in the 10300 block around 9 a.m. on Jan. 15.

Deer Run (Full Rack Drive) – Unknown suspect(s) broke out the glass in a rear sliding door of a home in the 7200 block on Jan. 15. Firearms, jewelry, electronic devices and miscellaneous items were reported stolen.

Enon (East Hundred Road) – A white 2003 Ford tow truck was reported stolen from the parking lot of a business in the 2400 block on Jan. 17.

Fernbrook (Chatham Grove Lane) – A known suspect fired a gun around 9:40 a.m. on Jan. 16 in the 9200 block.

Forest View (Twisted Oak Drive) – An unknown suspect was seen in the shed of a home in the 4300 block around 5 a.m. on Jan. 17. The suspect fled on foot. The shed’s lock was found to be broken and there were tool marks on the door. An unspecified item was reported stolen.

Hopkins Road – Unknown suspect(s) stole an unspecified number of batteries from construction equipment in the 9000 block on Jan. 14.

Hull Street Road – The tailgate was stolen from a vehicle parked at a business in the 6800 block on Jan. 14.

Jefferson Davis Highway – Firearms were reported missing from a vehicle in the 10700 block on Jan. 13.

• Ample Storage Center in the 16400 block reported on Jan. 16 that unknown suspect(s) cut the locks off 25 storage units. It was unknown whether anything was stolen.

• A known suspect kicked in the door of a room at the Family Motel in the 7500 block around 2:40 a.m. on Jan. 20 and vandalized the room. Nothing was reported stolen.

• A sofa and part of a utility shed at the Bellwood Maisonettes in the 6700 block were damaged by a small fire on Jan. 20 around 1:50 a.m.

Kingswood (Kendrick Road) – Unknown suspect(s) broke into a home in the 9300 block on Jan. 18 through the back door. Firearms, cash and electronics were reported stolen.

Lucy Corr Circle – Unknown suspect(s) stole a trailer from the county Health and Social Services building in the 9500 block on Jan. 13. The trailer was later recovered.

Midlothian Turnpike – A silver 2007 Saturn was reported stolen on Jan. 16 from the parking lot of the Stein Mart Festival Shopping Center in the 9700 block.

Normandale Terrace (Rio Vista Street) – A resident of a home in the 2300 block reported on Jan. 18 that electronic devices were stolen from his home. The property was found later on the front porch.

Patterson Park (Gwynn Avenue) – A known suspect tried to steal an all-terrain vehicle from a home in the 2500 block around 12:50 a.m. on Jan. 20.

Roxbury Square (Bannockbarn Drive) – Two unknown suspects were seen running from the rear of an apartment in the 7500 block around 1:50 a.m. on Jan. 20. Clothing and electronic devices were reported stolen.

Westerleigh (Cabretta Drive) – Several unknown suspects were seen stealing miscellaneous items from a construction site in the 5200 block around 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 22.
