Seminars offer tips on gardening

The Chesterfield County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering a series of free lawn and landscape seminars in October.

• Year-Round Gardens for Color. Tuesday, Oct. 2, Bon Air Library, 6 p.m. Learn what to plant each season to have color year-round.

• The Fall Porch Pot and Bringing Your Plants Indoor for the Winter. Wednesday, Oct. 3, Midlothian Library, 6 p.m. This demonstration will teach about potted outdoor plants for fall that will last into spring, as well as what to do to bring outdoor plants inside for the winter.

• Backyard Smorgasbord. Saturday, Oct. 6, Meadowdale Library, 1 p.m. Just like people, wildlife requires food, water, shelter and space. Learn why some outdoor spaces thrive.

• Your New Tree. Monday, Oct. 8, Central Library, 6 p.m. Learn about selecting, planting and caring for a new tree.

• Gardening and Fitness. Wednesday, Oct. 10, Midlothian Library, 6 p.m. Gardening may be the best-kept secret to getting and staying in shape.

• Native Gardening. Monday, Oct. 15, Chester Library, 6 p.m. Learn about native plants in natural landscapes, and preserving and restoring native plants in gardens.
