Make sure you lock vehicles and homes

Each week, county police officers respond to numerous calls for burglarized homes and automobiles. Many of these incidents might have been avoided had owners just locked their doors – eliminating an easy target for burglars. Below is a list of some (but definitely not all) of the calls from last week’s daily police reports – all involve unlocked residences or autos:

• Ben Fry Drive. Someone stole electronic equipment from an unlocked residence in the 12600 block on or before Aug. 11.

• Clear Springs Lane. Four unlocked vehicles were entered in the 1500 and 1600 blocks on Aug. 14. Money was taken.

• Heatherhill Drive. Three unlocked vehicles were entered in the 5500 block on or before Aug. 12. Electronics and miscellaneous items were taken.

• Jefferson Davis Highway. Money, electronics and miscellaneous items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 6100 block on or before Aug. 13.

• Lee Street. Money and miscellaneous property were stolen from an unlocked residence in the 4500 block on or before Aug. 15.

• Locksley Place. Burglar(s) entered a home in the 5000 block through an unlocked rear window on or before Aug. 11. Nothing was reported stolen.

• Pheasant Run Drive. Several unlocked vehicles were entered in the 3700 block on or before Aug. 15. Electronics were stolen.

• Pine Knoll Way. Money, jewelry and electronics were stolen from an unlocked residence in the 14900 block on or before Aug. 13.

• Rossington Boulevard. Two unlocked vehicles were entered in the 3200 block on or before Aug. 15. Electronics were taken from one of the vehicles.

• Schenley Drive. Electronics were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2500 block on or before Aug. 14.

• Sydelle Drive. Miscellaneous property was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 10500 block on or before Aug. 15.

• Timber Trail Drive. Electronics were stolen from several unlocked vehicles in the 12000 block on or before Aug. 11. Also, burglars entered an unlocked shed in the same block, but were unsuccessful at stealing an ATV parked inside.

• Tuskwillow Drive. Multiple unlocked vehicles were entered in the 5800 block on or before Aug. 10. Money and electronics were stolen.

In other crimes:

Cogbill Road. Someone gained entry to Meadowbrook Country Club’s snack bar through a window on or before Aug. 12. Consumable goods were stolen.

Hull Street Road. Someone cut fences surrounding a Dominion Virginia Power substation and Sprint Nextel tower on or before Aug. 11. Miscellaneous property was stolen.

Jefferson Davis Highway. A suspect entered Miller Mart-Dundas in the 6500 block on Aug. 12 at 8:38 a.m., walked behind the counter and attempted to open the register. When he was unsuccessful, the would-be robber left the store.

• Someone attempted to enter Escrow Motors in the 5000 block through a bay door on or before Aug. 10.

• Someone stole several catalytic converters from Auto Mundo in the 5000 block on or before Aug. 13.

Johnston Willis Drive. A state decal was stolen from a 1992 GMC bus at New Jerusalem International Christian Ministries in the 700 block on or before Aug. 1.

Kairos Road. Household goods were stolen from Richmond Gastroenterology and Colonial Medical Clinic in the 16000 block on or before Aug. 11.

Lake Caroline Court. A 2003 Dodge Ram was stolen from the 6400 block on or before Aug. 14.

Lamplighter Court. Someone forced open the front door of an apartment in the 4300 block on Aug. 12 around 7:20 p.m. and assaulted the victim inside.

Madras Court. Someone stole clothing and other miscellaneous items from a residence in the 7100 block on or before Aug. 13 after gaining access by pushing in a window airconditioning unit.

Marina Drive. Unknown burglars kicked open the door of a vacant apartment in the Falling Creek Apartments in the 2500 block on or before Aug. 5. Nothing was stolen.

Penny Bridge Drive. Upon hearing her alarm go off, the victim discovered an unknown male standing in her garage on Aug. 15 around 12:35 a.m. The suspect fled, and nothing appeared to be missing.

Quaker Lane. Someone forced open the door of the Bon Air Community Center on or before Aug. 13. The money box was opened, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Silvertree Court. Someone kicked the victim’s front door in the 15500 block, leaving behind a muddy footprint, around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Summerbrooke Drive. A 2001 Ford van was stolen from the 3300 block on or before Aug. 10.

Ruthers Road. A 2007 Toyota Prius was stolen from the 800 block on or before Aug. 13.
