River Road man arrested for sex crimes in 1999

Chesterfield police have arrested a 39-yearold county man for sex crimes that allegedly occurred on Jan. 1, 1999. James W. Bennett, of the 1000 block of River Road, is accused of aggravated sexual battery, object sexual penetration and indecent liberties with a child by a custodian.

Chesterfield police said the charges involve a family member and declined further comment.

In other crime reports:

Buckhorn Road. The victim had been away from the residence in the 12000 block for over a month. Upon returning, she noticed several items in the residence had been disturbed, indicating someone had been inside her home.

Buford Road. A 2002 Dodge Durango was stolen while parked at the Buford Road Shopping Center on Oct. 14 around 8:40 p.m.

Chesterfield Towne Center. Two suspects distracted the clerks at Gold N Gifts while a third suspect took a tray of jewelry at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Jefferson Davis Highway. In the 4900 block on Oct. 10, someone entered the Tropicabana business through a roof vent and stole money and food items.

• A window of a vehicle parked in the 6600 block on Oct. 12 was broken out so the suspect(s) could steal the satellite radio.

James River Road. School officials reported on Oct. 12 that someone entered a classroom trailer at Bettie Weaver Elementary School and wrote obscenities on the interior of the classroom. The trailer may have been left unlocked.

London Park Drive. On Oct. 7, the victim reported that suspect(s) cut the screen in the rear porch of the residence in the 2900 block and stole money from inside the home. On Oct. 10, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked at the same house and was able to unlock the trunk to steal money in a day planner.

Meadowdale Boulevard. At 4 p.m. on Oct. 14, the two suspects exposed themselves to the victims while they were outside of the Regency Lake Apartments in the 3500 block.

North Enon Church Road. A suspicious fire was discovered in a vacant office of Brown & Williamson Tobacco in the 13100 block on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.

Turner Road. Catalytic converters were stolen from a 1982 Chevrolet Malibu and a 1992 Mitsubishi GT3000 parked in the 300 block on Oct. 9.
