A 2012 independent audit of the Chesterfield Observer reported the circulation at 70,746, which includes delivery to 63,019 upscale homeowners in Chesterfield County. The remaining circulation is available for free pickup at numerous retail locations and public libraries in the county.

The Observer has the largest circulation of any weekly newspaper in central Virginia.
